Escape the bustle of downtown Bangkok with a trip to the other side of the Chao Phraya River. There, head to Taling Chan Floating Market and a very different type of fresh food market. Vendors from nearby farms arrive in boats laden with produce. Another highlight is the canal system’s several floating docks that function as informal dining areas, with the kitchens of restaurants on boats as well.
Boat tours are available that visit various sites around the local neighbourhood including temples and stilt houses along the canals.
Taling Chan Floating Market is open at weekends only, from 7.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. We recommend arriving as early as possible since crowds can be large by mid-morning. You can take a free shuttle van from Novotel Bangkok Silom Road to BTS SkyTrain – Sala Daeng station and then ride to Bang Wa BTS station. From there, Taling Chan Floating Market is about a 15-minute taxi ride away.
