Founded in 1869, the Neilson Hays Library holds the largest collection of English-language books in Bangkok. The library’s approximately 20,000 titles comprise fiction and non-fiction works across a wide range of genres; most books can be borrowed (members only). Many international magazines and newspapers also available for browsing.
The library is run by Thailand’s oldest non-profit organisation, whose volunteer staffs, in addition to maintaining and acquiring the library’s collection, also arranges second-hand book sales and art exhibitions. The graceful neo-classical building and leafy grounds has long been a popular venue for concerts, weddings and other social occasions. A garden café with art gallery serves breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks all day, and is setting for the library’s Children’s Story Time every Saturday morning. Open Tuesday to Sunday 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (closed Monday).
The Neilson Hays Library is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
